On How Much Should You Pay to See: Magic Mike
The only thing I want to add is that since we had this conversation I finally saw Beasts of the Southern Wild and the consensus I came to with me is that you should each pay a thousand dollars to see that great movie.

On How Much You Should Pay to See: 'Moonrise Kingdom'
@Amanda Webber@facebook Since this chat I've noticed that just about everyone has written about the Truffaut-Anderson connection, because duh. (I'm an authority on Truffaut so I can talk like that.) But I eventually remembered what I was really thinking of -- it's this short New Yorker piece that you can't actually read online, thanks New Yorker: http://www.newyorker.com/talk/2012/05/28/120528ta_talk_widdicombe It does mention Truffaut and Small Change, but what stuck with me more was Anderson's description of the movie as (I really like this) a "documentary of the kids acting."

@sally Wait one bit is 12.5 cents?? You're kidding me. It's amazing to think how that was once American's only currency.

On How Much You Should Pay to See: 'The Avengers'
@Saralyn@twitter Thank you! I really know nothing and have no right to speak as an authority on Thor. AuTHORity. Ester was just being deliberately obtuse so I had to shut her up by saying "magic" several times.

On How Much You Should Pay to See: 'The Dark Knight Rises'
@Saralyn@twitter Yeah, right? I'm bummed we never actually talked about Prometheus here because, even more than with this movie, Prometheus (in IMAX and 3D) took a million dollars out of my wallet and rewarded me with a movie that made no sense and I am still SO glad I saw it. Partly because it looked great/was a good sensory experience, but mostly because the conversation afterwards trying (failing) to make sense of it was hilarious and so much fun. The movie fails as a piece of storytelling. But there are other, sometimes better reasons to pay for entertainment.
