On I Made $570K Last Year, But I Don't Feel Rich (In Fact, I Feel Worried)

Well this article has certainly started fireworks. The only way we can fix income equality in the states is for people like Jake Smith to speak openly about money. This article rubs many working and lower middle class folks the wrong way in the same vein that Gwyneth Paltrow and Beyonce rub "real women" the wrong way.

On I Made $570K Last Year, But I Don't Feel Rich (In Fact, I Feel Worried)

@chic noir - I guess another thing that got me was the stress over paying for his child's schooling. With his salary, if he had purchased a more modest priced home, he could've paid off his mortgage, student loans, and saved enough for his kids to attend state schools within 4 years. Not of course because we don't do that sort of thing on this blog. Amen

On I Made $570K Last Year, But I Don't Feel Rich (In Fact, I Feel Worried)

@olivia - Well said Olivia. I guess being rich is relative. In my eyes, making 500k makes one rich. Not the I can quit my job rich, but the I can eat fresh healthy foods, purchase a decent house and spend a day in the emergency room rich. Lifestyle creep is dangerous as is keeping up with the Jones. Both to our wallets and piece of mind.

On What Percentage of Your Pay Do You Spend on Rent?

@swirrlygrrl - The name of her blog is "elegant Black Women" IIRC. You really are her lifestyle twin.

On So Cool to Live in a Post-Race World

@stuffisthings - Well I visited Paris as a late teen. Best experience of my life. I was treated exceptionally well. I didn't get the race issues that we have in the Untied States. For what it's worth, as a Black American when traveling in Europe, I've received better treatement on the whole vs how I'm treated in the US. I've heard/read something similar for Black Americans living and traveling in Asia too. I will say since I've come of age, it's gotten much better in America. I guess we can thank "PC" for that.

On So Cool to Live in a Post-Race World

@stuffisthings Well she was born in Paris but her mom is from Martinique and her dad is from Guadeloupe. OMG I was reading about how some French of Martinique and Guadeloupe extraction aligned themselves with LePen, Bridgitte Bardot's xenophobic husband.

On So Cool to Live in a Post-Race World

@stuffisthings - *La sigh* isn't it crazy how it took until the 1990's for "diversity" to become a thing in this country. So many hardworking people of color passed over or dennied opportunity until it became "cool" to work with minorities.

On How to Stop Going into Credit Card Debt for the Sake of "Points"

@seaermine - I have a Discover that I use for gift cards. I love the Neiman Marcus, Elizabeth Arden Spa or Macy's gift cards. Most Discover retailer giftcards give you an extra 5-10 bucks depending on the amount.

On So Cool to Live in a Post-Race World

@stuffisthings - You know there are many White students attending HBCU now, most offer schoolarship money to White and other non Black students. Maybe those positions he went to interview for were set aside "for Blacks". That's a whole other crzy convo for another day I guess.
