On Reviews of Public Transportation
Nobody's mentioned Atlanta's MARTA? I'd give it a 1.5. Its main fault lies in infrequency of trains/buses (this is a BIG one). No one needs to wait 25-45 minutes at each transfer. But there are a good number of routes. And the cars are always spacious and clean.

On One More Thing About Booking Flights
I have my own routine for booking flights since I went to school on the other side of the country and not-infrequently shuttled home for holidays and stuff. Ticket prices generally drop on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The cheapest days to fly are Saturdays and Tuesdays, so if you can adjust your work schedule, it's totally worth it to fly then. Use priceline or kayak or something similar to compare airline fares and just keep your eye on it starting ~6 weeks before you need to fly.

Pineapples- some say they're ripe when the eyes are all the same size throughout the pineapple. I'm not sure if this is necessarily true, though. It helps if you smell the base! If it smells sweet you're usually golden.
