On Tuesday Check-In

@contropercial I spend about $40 + $8 tip on getting haircuts every 10 weeks. I color my own hair because it's too damn expensive (teaching yourself the brush-and-bowl method is not hard, at least if you're doing simple color--I match it to my natural, just covering up grays, so there's lots of room for error). I try to use good dye, so it's probably like $20 every 10 weeks.

On Tuesday Check-In

I took out $140 in cash to try and enforce my $140 estimate and I did pretty good. I didn't itemize it, but I ended up at $160 (bought some long underwear. It's zero degrees in Chicago. WORTH IT.)

On Friday Estimate

Knowns: Going to my boyfriend's show tonight at a bar and probably eating out before=guessing $40. Grocery trip=$50. Guinea pig supplies: $20 (Goddamn, little fuckers are expensive). Unknowns: rest of the weekend. Probably eat out once more ($15), maybe go see a movie (Zero Dark Thirty, I hope--$12). The forecast in Chicago for MLK day is high of 12, low of 0, so I plan on not leaving my house unless it burns down. Poor boyfriend doesn't get that day off of work! Who ARE these people?? Ima say $140 for the budget this weekend.

On Depression and Money, Some Real Talk

@HannibalV my therapist joined my network because of The Recession--she thought it would help her get more clients. maybe try that tactic??

On Depression and Money, Some Real Talk

and another reminder to thank my lucky stars that 1) i have health insurance 2) my therapist is wonderful and in-network, which means i pay $20 a session. she wasn't always, though, and that really sucked. mental health really needs to be better covered by insurance and there should be incentives for providers to join insurance networks.

On Mom Says I Should Bring My Lunch to Save $ But I Don't Think I Would

i am in grad school so i will talk about UTILITY CURVES. this all depends on your preferences and willingness to pay (read=ability to pay). if you prioritize convenience over thrift, and can afford it, there's nothing morally wrong with it. i, on the other had, love to cook and prefer to bring my leftovers for lunch, but i also work full time and am in school so have no time at all and would rather buy a disgusting amount of panera soup than bring a sad, thrown-together sandwich.

On I Fell for Taylor Swift's Marketing Strategy

i've started liking taylor swift since she started wearing boldass red lipstick and heavy bangs all the time (perhaps because I too wear red lipstick and heavy bangs)
