On How to Negotiate a Lease Renewal
I've had really good luck with this with my apartment in NYC. Although I feel like I can't ever move out of my place because the neighborhood got too expensive. Currently, the condo building across the street rents a 1br for $700 more a month than my entire 3br.

On When CSAs Go from Small to Big
Go for it. This is my second year doing a half share CSA from june-october. One of the tricks to not letting veggies go bad is to cook it prior and throw it in the fridge/freezer. I've totally made some meals/sauces/stews/etc and just stored the entire thing to eat at a later date. Of course, I love cooking and don't mind spending a few hours in my kitchen. Mike, maybe a winter CSA would be good for you. The one I do in the winter grows everything in the summer and immediately freezes it. And of course with frozen veggies you won't have to worry about it going bad. http://www.wintersunfarms.com/

This works for medical bills? I just got a somewhat big one so maybe I'll give it a try. I threaten to cancel my cable about every six months and they always give me a discount to stay.

On Save On Cereal With This One Weird Old Tip
I buy my cereal off Amazon. You have to buy 4 boxes at a time, but it comes out to be about $3 a box for a Kashi cereal I often see for around $5/box (in nyc). I also enjoy not carrying cereal home with me on the subway.

On What's In My Wallet: $39 in Cash, Business Cards and My Parents' AmEx
@pandaonaplane This really terrible bar in Manhattan does a free 1 hour open bar for 50 people with that. I'm pretty sure all of my friends have won. The place is so terrible we actually stopped going months ago, but they called me last week to tell me I won again.

On Yakkin' About Poverty And How It's Done (Well)
I've been recommending that book non-stop since I read it in the spring. After I got over how sad it was it really opened my eyes and made me think about all of the things I take advantage of in every day life.
