@Trilby I'd believe you if your phone could only make calls. What you said is really contradictory. Calling is the only real requirement on a phone if you don't want to be a 'zombie'. If you have texts and email then you would be staring at the phone...when you only make calls is when you avoid that.
No extremes are good. If you don't own a cellphone because you don't want to be a zombie or whatever then it says a lot about you. Have some will power, some self control...you are under control of your cellphone. That's why a phone like the iPhone has "Do Not Disturb", just keep it permanently on that and you will only get notified when someone calls you repeatedly in like under 3 min. It is irresponsible to not own a cell these days...what do you do if your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere? If you are in some type of emergency and you don't have phone? Irresponsible as hell..at least have $10 burner.
It's what I love and hate about the US. You have anything and everything in a supermarket, but a lot of it is not the best. It's easy but it's a complacency, sort of. Whereas I go to the supermarket and I'm not looking for the organic stuff since most is all fresh. There aren't farmer's market, whole foods, blah blah because perhaps there's no need for it. Our weather permits it since we're tropical and have sun year round, so not a lot of transgenic products. Also, great article. It was a good read. Also, big corporations aren't as numerous. They exist, but they are usually not competing against each other. Then again there's no middle ground here since no competition can cause drops in quality, anyways I'm rambling here. The bottom line is that in the end it's up to each of us.
@LA I pretty much agree with both of them. There's a lack of context on most of it..but I also think it is the strength of the article, seeing these little sort of vignettes. It has a sort of disconnect to it..(I'm from Venezuela hehe)
I couldn't handle the uncertainty of it all..like he said, you can't be taught to be funny..so if you suck you won't do much. I wish I could be that brave. I've had too comfy a life for that I think...
My city..yay. There's countless of things as shocking as those. You wouldn't believe half the stories I could tell you..it depresses me greatly because there was so much money, so much opportunity to be amazing, but it's been squandered over and over these past 15 years. We have a president whose credentials are that he was the president of a bus driver union.
I can wait until tomorrow to buy groceries. Just for tonight I'll eat out.
@stuffisthings yeah that was my same thought..otherwise that's just too much work/money to generate a $9/hr job.
this is bonkers.
