@Marissa Re: balloons - absolutely! It felt so lame to make that last payment on my credit card. BUT Mike Dang really did mail me a card which was kind of the same thing?

@takaba My highest loan balance has an 8.3% interest rate and the daily interest on it makes me so mad!

I paid off my credit card last month and Mike Dang sent me a card that I pinned to my bulletin board. I do however have some charges on the card from an outlet mall excursion this weekend, but I will pay that off with a check I am getting tomorrow. Onto the goals! Vacation in August: Goal $2000 April: $800.27 May: $1500.00 Emergency Fund by December Goal $2500 April: $0 May: $0 My current plan is to save up for the vacation first, but maybe I should do both at once?

@ArizonaTime Whoa, cross country moves are no joke. So you're moving for school? What kind of program? Hopefully it is super lucrative and all of this debt will be gone soon! Good luck!

@ifwecantaloupe Oh wow that interest rate is so high. I think you should execute the federal loan plan. If you are now eligible for federal loans you should definitely use them.

On How Much Do You Spend on Transportation Each Month?
@Christy Clearly the answer is to move to Bloomingdale and walk to work*. We can all have a drink at Boundary Stone! *kidding, you do you.

@Christy That is great that your job offers a transportation subsidy and you get to be close to your GF. That car payment would bust my budget though.

@keynesiancutie Bloomingdale is super cute! And we're getting new amenities all the time. And the trees! I love it, and I really love walking to work which I have done with my last two jobs - one in the Capitol Hill direction and one near K street.

On Can I Afford to Help People?
It sounds like you're in Reading Corps, not VISTA so you could get a second job if you wanted. Amicorps income doesn't really count as "real" income so you should qualify for the full SNAP benefits unless you have a lot of other assets. Apply as soon as you can and take them. Do you have plans for what you're going to do with your education bonus at the end? Pay off student loans? Save it for further schooling?
