@Dont Move to Finland It definitely goes into the finances, class, tipping etc. Ok I'll stop, but I'm a huge fan.

On How Much is That Procedure?

What if we all asked for a price estimate? Then it'd be a thing hospitals would expect. In conclusion, yes the hospitals need to be more clear about their billing.

On Is There Anyone on Earth With As Much Debt As Me?

I think being burdened by your debt even though you make a lot of money is reasonable. It's still a burden to feel as if you must continually make money. It's still a shame you couldn't go into the less lucrative but more soulful side of law because of that pressure. There's always somebody worse off, but it's the whole sharing in experience that creates change.

On A Thing for You to Buy, if You Are Needing to Buy a Thing

@readyornot Agreed! On Photography changed how I view the world and I am sad we don't have On the Internet by Sontag either. Sempre Susan was just such a great coming of age and a great respectful and fair biography. Also yes, don't buy from mean conglomerates when there are Awl friends out there. Also Also, I guess I learned how to use italics in a comment.

On Fitness, Happiness Expensive

I had to look up what a Burpee is because I was pretty sure it wasn't the seed catalog sitting in my bathroom right now. Wikipedia said it's "identical to what is in US English termed a 'squat thrust'" just in case anybody else was wondering.

On Living in Squalor for Artistic Freedom

Is this the guy who didn't stretch out his drug self-portraits and have to be hospitalized? Wait. Let me go look it up on the internet -- yes. It is. Way better than I thought! Thanks for prodding me into finding his work Billfold. Also, glad he started spacing those out a bit and decided to live. Artist can live anywhere especially the ascetic kind, which this guy sort of qualifies for. Commercialism of visual art is such a bumpy ride. Glad this guy is on that train.
