On Ending Wedding Gifts

If I am invited to a shower for the engaged couple, I will happily give a gift, but I will not then buy them a gift specifically for the wedding. You are not allowed to double dip! I call shenanigans on that BS.

On I Made $570K Last Year, But I Don't Feel Rich (In Fact, I Feel Worried)

I think that this guy needs to look into therapy. He obviously has anxiety issues over money. Anyone who has his income level and has such stress over future spending needs therapy. (Saying this as someone who has significantly lower but still comfortable income level and is in therapy because of my anxiety over things that could happen in 20 years.)

On I Was a Victim of Fraud and I Don't Care

@SarcasticFringehead There's a HUGE difference between having your CC number stolen and having your identity stolen. One of my coworkers had that happen five years ago and is STILL dealing with the repercussions. According to her, you don't know hell until you've had someone file a tax return under your name for three years in a row.

On My $10,000 Safety Net (Thanks, Gran)

My mother recently died and she was the one who handled the finances. Dad had a general sense of their overall worth, but no idea how to handle the day to day finances. I've been helping him pay bills online and showing him how to check his account balances on his new* smartphone. He just did their taxes for the first time in 48 years. He said seeing how much money they actually have is quite interesting, but he was always willing to let Mom handle the details. It has been eye opening for me. I'm not sure if it is unusual or not, but all the women in my family handle the finances and the men are just fine with that. *new in that it is new to him but actually my mom's old iphone.

On Nine Money-Saving Tips From My Mom

Real talk - I do #4 but not at the window. A lot of large multiplexes have the self-serve ticket machine and I pick the movie and then the cheapest ticket option, usually child or senior. Then I buy snacks from the movie theater, which is where they make their money, anyway.

On Old Fashioneds and a Roast: A Dinner Party for $13 Per Person

I find it entertaining that you provided for the gluten free and lactose intolerant, but nothing for the vegetarians. (Not a vegetarian, but you need some green on that menu!)

On Burger Battle

In & Out is a regional chain that has an intense following that tolerate their ABYSMAL fries for a middle of the road burger. (Says the Texas girl who would tattoo WHATABURGER 4 EVA on her person to advertise her horse in this race.)

On WWYD: The Bad Haircut

@e I found a stylist using the naturallycurly.com boards and I will go to that man until I die. Lord help me if he ever retires. (He was the second one I tried off the boards. The first one was ok, but I wasn't blown away like I am with this guy.)

On WWYD: The Bad Haircut

If someone does a crappy job* cutting my hair, I'll be damned if I ever go back to them. *I have naturally curly hair, so I've suffered through growing out some absolutely miserable haircuts. The last miserable one was from a salon in my office building and the owner would see me walking by and try to convince me that I didn't like it because it would look better straight and that I should stop by & let them straighten it so I could see. I finally had a very blunt conversation where I said "If I wanted a straight hairstyle I would have told her I wanted a straight hairstyle. I said I never straighten my hair and she did not have the skill to deal with that and should have bowed out right there."
