On #DO1THING

I moved literally around the corner a couple of years ago, so close that I have the same mailman, and he still brings me shit that is addressed to the old place. Never leave me, mailman!!

On Infrastructure Failure Interdependencies

I had to go to Phoenix for work in August and I hated/was terrified by it. It was 116 degrees. I come from a hot and humid place, but that was truly insane. I felt like I was being cooked. As soon as you take off in a plane, you just see desert. Bleh.

On Is the U.S. Facing a Shortage of Factory Workers?

It depends on the type and complexity of the work. I have actually worked in a factory before. It was a small-run book bindery, and the fact that it was small-run means that it was actually not very high tech. A lot of stuff was being done by hand that wouldn't have been if we were binding Harry Potter instead of a 400-book run of a fundraising cookbook or whatever. It's pretty taxing to do the same thing over and over (best example: once I dropped 2 metal rings on top of each stack of punched index cards as they went by on a conveyor belt, all day). I'd never be willing to do something like that full time. Even the more complex stuff was only ok.

On Things To Do At Work Instead Of Working (An Incomplete List)

My friend named the work poop the "company dumpany."

On 'How many billions of dollars do you have to launder for drug lords before somebody says, we're shutting you down?'

Elizabeth Warren, you give me hope that House of Cards isn't how all politicians actually are.

On Generic Products I'll Never Waste Money on Again

Your tampon fairy godmother is totally right. I am picky about my tea bags and my diet soda (Coke Zero and Fresca, anything else is dead to me) and my toothbrushes. I need that ergonomic, rubberized handle and those fancy weird bristles.

On Bitcoins and Gold Coins: 'They're All Just Digital Score Sheets'

I have some bitcoins right now and am actually making money on them. It's really like any other stock, except much more likely to completely collapse at any second!

On 12 Percent of Billionaires Are Virgos

@kellyography Yeah, I bet the number sinks pretty low once you exclude any underage billionaires.

On 12 Percent of Billionaires Are Virgos

I thought this said virgins and now I really want to know how many billionaires are virgins. This will be impossible to figure out with google both because I'm sure nobody knows and because of Richard Branson.

On A Chat With Mike The Mailman, Who Delivers the Mail (For Now)

He's really great. My mailman is also amazing--I moved around the corner about 2 years ago after a year in the old place, and he will still bring us mail addressed to the old house even thought the forwarding period expired.
