On I Hired an Esteemed Cat Photographer to Take Photos of My Cat
I've had this photo as my iPhone wallpaper for ages, but I think I might change it to 'Unimpressed Mr Biscuit #2' because it is truly a work of art.

On WWYD: A Job on the Side
I've pretty much always had a second job (either in bars/ restaurants when I was younger or freelance transcription work now) in addition to my salaried work, and I've been relatively open about it because it hasn't conflicted with my day job. The only time I didn't mention it was when I took on some freelance research work because even though it didn't conflict per se with the work I was doing during the day, I think they would have worried it was taking my focus away from my main job (it didn't and everything was fine, so I decided they didn't need to know).

On Caffè Sospeso
I think it's a sad that everyone's first thought is that people would abuse it because they're jerks. I think the type of places that do suspended coffee are probably more independent/ community-focused, and I have to believe that for the most part people tend to honour that ethos when they go there (if this was offered by Starbucks it might be a different story). There was a thing about this on the BBC website a few days ago as well, btw - http://bbc.in/14NFs2I

On Heading North for an Affordable College Experience
I transferred to McGill for this very reason (in 2004). Tuition was roughly $12,000 Canadian then which was a (relatively speaking) good deal, especially with what the exchange rate was then (I think it ended up being like 10k US?) But it's not like this is cheap, when you compare to what Canadian students pay -- and freakin Quebecois were paying something like $1,500 a year in tuition and had the gall to 'strike' against cuts to bursaries (don't get me wrong, I think bursaries are great, but it was just hard to feel empathetic when people could afford to pay their own tuition by working a part time job, and I was paying literally 10 times as much). I sort of feel like as an American, you're sort of screwed no matter which country you go to university in - either you pay exorbitant rates in your own country, or you go elsewhere where they use international students as cash cows. I still ended up with $20,000ish in student loans from my undergrad degree.

On What'd You Spend On Your Bed? Like $200? Does That Sound Right?
@la_di_da I don't know of anyone who has or had the Ikea bed slats and didn't have it break within a matter of months. DON'T DO IT.

On Lisa And Bryan Moved In Together, Finally
@highjump Well I was moving to his city, and originally I was going to get my own place but it just seemed ridiculous because he owns his house (plus I have to travel back to my old city frequently for work). So we decided to just go for it and I moved in! I pay him 'rent', which ends up being about 35% of his mortgage and bills... I had tried to pay more but I am sooo stretched financially with student loan bills + tuition fees for grad school + travelling each week. Everything else we split 50/50. And it's all worked out really well! Money-wise it's been absolutely no problem because we talk things through ad nauseum and luckily we're completely on the same page re: how much we want to spend on various items. Relationship-wise, none of the things people have warned us about have happened (fighting, getting too comfortable, not going out). Maybe we're just lucky that we jumped into something quickly and it just so happens that it works?

On Lisa And Bryan Moved In Together, Finally
I have been waiting so long for this!! My boyfriend and I moved in together in January (after only 4 months together, eek) and despite all of the world's warnings it turns out to be the best thing ever. I have to say, reading this series (especially the things to talk about shiz) was super super helpful.

On Do You Have a Uniform?
I have accidentally fallen into a sort of uniform that is basically grey or blue and/or striped tops, cardigans and jeans and it is DESTROYING MY SOUL. How do I own nothing with colours or patterns or in any material besides cotton??

On WWYD: Grandma's Costume Jewelry
If they got diamonds, and you got a hideous brooch, they'd be jerks to expect a portion of the proceeds.

On An American in Israel, Navigating Credit
@stuffisthings I've got a £500 interest free overdraft with my bank. When they told me I could have it I was like, "Really? So that's £500 free money then, cool." Occasionally I think I should try to get out of the red (which I'm in by the middle of each month), but then I remember I have actual credit card debt with actual interest accumulating and it doesn't really make any sense to get out of my overdraft.
