On When You Ask Me If I Can Spare a Dollar
I don't give panhandlers money, as a general rule. There is a guy I see every day, twice a day on my way to and from work, since I moved to this neighborhood. I did the math a while ago and if I gave him a dollar or even 50 cents every time I saw him, I would have given him upwards of five thousand dollars by now. I'm not in a position where I can just hand strangers five thousand dollars, so I donate to charitable organizations when I can, and say "sorry, no" whenever anyone asks me for money on the street.

On 2 Ways to Interpret: "Well, My Parents Pay My Phone Bill, So"
@franklina The E-Mail Is Acting Strange And Other Mysteries is an amazing title for something. Maybe an updated Nancy Drew-esque series?

On Ending Wedding Gifts
Speaking of crock pots, they are making cute ones now! I saw a Hamilton Beach one yesterday that was grey and white patterned, and even though I have nowhere to put a crock pot and would probably never use one, I wanted it kind of a lot.

On Oh You Know Just Buying Some Orwell for Escapist Fiction Ha. Ha Ha.
I just re-read 1984, as part of an experiment to see if I actually didn't like most of the books I read in high school. Verdict: still kind of boring; would not re-read for fun. But I bought my copy for 50 cents used at the local church book sale.

On How Much is Your Phone Bill Each Month?
I have a hand-me-down flip phone from 2004, an AT&T discount through my employer, and the smallest calling/texting plan there is. My bill is about $48/month.

On Open Laptop, "Attend" Wedding
It's weird that I kind of love this idea, right? Video "wedding packages" are so cheesy, and you have to wait forever, and who actually watches them anyway? If your friends or family can't make the wedding due to extenuating circumstances, but still want to see the ceremony, this is kind of a great way to do it. I will say, though, opening it to the public or expecting gifts from your virtual attendees seems pretty gross.

On Amazon Expands Its Grocery Business
@meatcute My workplace did this last year. We got our coworker a big FreshDirect gift card when his wife had their baby. I tend to go to the local store a couple times a week because it's not out of my way, but for bigger store runs, I always have to get a cab back, so I might be interested in something like this. Especially if they have cheap cereal.

@sunflowernut This is one of the saddest things I have ever read.

On How Much Do You Spend on Electricity Each Month?
We're 4 people in 2 floors of a row house with central heat and air, plus a washer/dryer and dishwasher. I just did the average for this year, and it's about $120/month for electricity and gas. Winters kill us at about $225/month but summers aren't bad at $73 last month.
