You're making me feel inadequate. Thus far, we have spent a grant total of 8.85$ on the kitten herself, for her food and a little dingly ball for her to play with. We repurposed the tiny pet basket into a bed, with an old pet blanket, and are using old dishes until I can get her some fancy ones. A kitten-related but not kitten-only cost was a second jumbo litter box (20.21$) and "At Ease" spray for the adult cats (10.04$) Now the ADULT cat food rang up at 48.57$, and their litter at 19.19$, so I guess the cats as a whole are expensive. The kitten? Pff. She's a drop in the bucket of Egon's mass of vet bills. She's also kicked me out of my chair.
If you haven't already, take a look at "Overdressed: the shockingly high cost of cheap fashion." That + your recent clothes-selling incident should be enough to keep you from ever buying a cheap thing "just because" again.
