What about how disgusting Netti pots are even before you factor in the brain eating bacteria thing?! You squirt the saline water up one nostril and everything that is gross in your sinuses comes out the other nostril in a steady stream of slim. Or, if you angle it wrong, all the sinus sludge ends up in the back of your throat. I would much rather be stuffed up!!!
I live in the midwest and work in the arts. God bless the cheap cheap rent!! Monthly Post Tax Income: $2000 Rent-320 Internet- 27 Utilities-70 Groceries-250 Gym-35 Gas-100 Car payment-250 Insurance-55 Pet related-$40 Long Term Savings-100 Short Term Savings-400 (I refer to this as my slush fund-vacations, Christmas expenses, perfect dress at Anthropologie, any unexpected big expenses all come from this account, so after lots of holiday travel and gift giving, it could really use a boost) Fun things/Eating out/Most clothing/Not fun things (like dentist copays)-353 My health insurance and retirement are covered by work, but I just moved some of my long term savings into a Roth. I'm hoping to get a small raise in the next few months to bump up some of those savings too.
Buy a bathing suit at Modcloth. The Ester Williams collection is both well made, and reasonably priced, and whenever I put mine on, I felt like million bucks. A rare gem in the world of swimsuits.
I worked Black Friday at Joann Fabrics every Thanksgiving when I was in college and it was The Best! I would get there at 4AM, there was a big potluck in the breakroom full of Thanksgiving foods, the managers, employees and most of the customers all had a really great attitude of "we are all in this together, and it was so busy the day flew by. Then I would be home by home by one, and spend the rest of the day watching Christmas specials in my pjs. It was exhausting, but my favorite shift of the year for sure.
I sold my car today! I had been avoiding putting it on craigslist for a month because it seemed like such a huge pain, but I put it up last night, and sold it about an hour ago. So easy, but I can't believe how shady used car sales are!
My parents did this all the time- we did a lot of family ski vacations, and it is a very expensive sport! Years later, I met someone in marketing for a ski resort and they say they factor age exaggeration into the cost of their tickets- so they are almost expecting parents with 7 year olds to ask for an under 6 lift ticket.
@EvanDeSimone Ugh, my one thing today was also order more checks because I am completely out...and I am super annoyed about this because I am moving in two months, and will have to get new checks again!
oh man, I feel like I could have given this interview (minus the trust part) (and I just finished paying off my grad school loans!). One thing that is really nice about working at university is employees get tuition waivers for all classes, so I have started taking business courses, just in case we someday need to have more of an income then a Phd and MFA can provide us.
I hardly ever post, but I love the one thing posts! Now, I save up all my One Things for Thursdays and it makes doing them sooooooooooooooooooooo much better (and they actually get done!)
@sherlock That was exactly my takeaway from it. I work with a lot of dancers, which seems pretty similar to figure skating, where you really need to start training as a little kid and the financial commitment from parents seems enormous.
