On Investigating the Worst Charities
@ekaterinalda The pink ribbon logo is owned by the Susan G. Komen Foundation (which has its own issues with how much money goes to funding research into a cure for breast cancer), not the scammy American Breast Cancer Foundation. These terrible "charities" fool donors by piggybacking on the names of other more reputable organizations.

On Should Your Wedding Gift Cover Your Meal?
The last wedding I went to, I gave the bride and groom a (nice) bottle of bourbon as a gift, plus an ice-cube tray that makes great big ice cubes (so you don't dilute your sippin' bourbon as quickly). They'd registered for the ice-cube tray, but not for the whiskey. So I guess my gift covered what I *drank* at the reception.

On Generic Products I'll Never Waste Money on Again
@OhMarie A friend and I were at the store a few days after Hurricane Sandy, and she was picking up items to drop off at a nearby school to be donated to people who'd been really affected (we were in a part of Brooklyn that just got wet). She held up the big box of Lipton tea bags and said, "Well, this one is a dollar cheaper...but these people have suffered enough." Put it down, bought the Tetley.
