On Are You Ready to Buy Your First Home?

As someone who is also familiar with the Orange County market, there's a huge difference in price between North and South Orange County in terms of housing price. With those variables, it's likely that they were looking in north OC, maybe in the Orange/Tustin or Fountain Valley/Garden Grove areas. A quick look on Redfin shows a decent amount of houses that fall in the ~up to $600,000 range with 4 bedrooms.

On Our Favorite Gadgets And Tools

@mirror_father_mirror I do like Pilot pens, but especially this one: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2356/2510853745_9b74ca44e9.jpg The same as above, but with a grip. Somehow it feels better. Like, the heft is better and it writes like a dream.

On She Left Her Country to Look for a Job

@EvanDeSimone The only thing really stopping me is the difficulty of finding a job abroad (particularly Europe for myself) and acquiring a visa. Alas, citizenship boundaries.

On Time Warner Cable's Really Obnoxious 'Business Decision'

Note: there's also something in their contracts that say that you cannot sue on the behalf of others, i.e. a class action suit and it's binding arbitration only or something. So sayeth Consumerist, at least.

On Essential Gadgets for College Kids

@kellyography Who calls it a Zip Drive? My co-workers call USB sticks "keys" which really annoy me... and they're young people in their 20's! I had to buy zip disks for school in sixth grade... something like $10 for a whopping 30mb of storage. (Clearly my colleagues were of the more privileged sort - my family and I balked at this sort of requirement).

On It's Like A Membership to a Movie Theater If You're Into That

I remember when this first launched in LA but it wasn't a good option for us because of the selection of chains, plus one of the chains ended up dropping out. And like, you had to sign up for a year and if you cancelled midway, you wouldn't be refunded for the rest or something. Maybe it's since changed. We decided on a joint membership to the art house/wacky film place Cinefamily. Very worth it for all you can watch movies, special events, and free popcorn for $20 a month.

On Too Busy To Wash Your Hair

I like showering at night but usually procrastinate to the point that it's too late for me to shower without going to bed with my hair wet and I just am super lazy. I really like Oscar Blandi's Pronto hair powder, and for real fancy occasions, Klorane Dry Shampoo (the aerosol kind because yes). They're not cheap... but they're great, for someone with greasy, black (Asian) hair. They both blend in real well and smell nice and make me look less scuzzy

On Splitting the Check Shouldn’t Feel Like Rocket Science

@Mari D I live in LA too! But I have no friends so this is not an issue. When I do happen to be with other people, I sometimes just ask for my own check (quietly, to the waiter) some 15 minutes before I leave, so you avoid the weird splitting 10 ways, can pay your own bill, and can leave before the eventual awkward 10-way split.
