On The Cost of Applying to Med School (5 Digits)
@cjm This is incredibly correct. Not only are there huge barriers that come with the cost (or having to hustle to get the waivers), but being a first generation student comes with what I think is a huge lack of knowledge about pretty much everything associated with going to college or a professional school. I remember thinking that it was ridiculous to pay $1000+ for an LSAT class, so I just asked my parents to buy me a $20 prep book for Christmas, which seemed to work out fine, but when I told people at law school that I didn't take a class, they were appalled. Unrelated, I thought about writing something like this about how much it costs to take the bar exam, and really wish I had because this is a lovely post.

On What's Your Financial Outlook This Year?
On one hand I'm optimistic because I am out of school for the first time ever, so can/should get a real adult job. On the other hand, I don't have such a job lined up and have moved back in with my parents.

On WWYD: Slightly Overcharged
I hate being the only person saying this, but I would have probably gone back, unless I was in a big hurry to get somewhere, then I probably would've felt bad about causing a hassle and given the cashier a tip. Mike probably always tips at coffee shops, but I usually don't. This comment makes me feel like Scrooge McDuck.

On Turkey Planning
The past few years I've done something different each time. One time I hosted, last year I went to a friend's, and this year a friend invited me to her parents'. But on Black Friday, my boyfriend and I are going to have second Thanksgiving so that we have all our favorites and all the good leftovers.

@MilesofMountains Yeah, I saw Brave New World and got worried, but then I thought, well, literature, maybe, even though that girl looked a little young. But then it got much worse.

On Monday Check-In: A Wedding in Dallas
@jfruh I've never been to a wedding with assigned seats (other than this is the wedding part table or something), but I see positives in both. Mainly, I don't want to have to find my assigned seat and what if the people at my table suck but if I don't know anyone besides the people getting married, it'd be nice to have people who are somewhat obligated to speak to me.

On The Agonies, the Ecstasies and the Efficiencies of Menu Planning
@Megano! I spend like $40-50/week for two people. We eat meat, mostly chicken, because that's what cheap. I should note that this doesn't include lunches most days because there's always free food to be found at school, and my boyfriend usually goes out for his.

On How Much Do You Spend on Groceries Every Week?
I spend about $30 a week for one person. This is all food except I usually go out for about 1 lunch and 1 dinner each week.
