On Friday Estimate
okay! my first estimate... here we go! Friday - groceries today, plus having a bunch of people over for a pizza-making party: ~$80 Saturday - a bit of shopping in which I will (hopefully) not purchase anything, plus coffee and a snack: ~$15. Planning on cooking at home, but maybe a drink or two out in the evening: ~$15. Sunday - possibly brunch, and treating the boyfriend since he's still in the job process: ~$30 So, $150 for the weekend!

On Keeping Track of Our Money
@stuffisthings I track my spending monthly, taking into consideration weekly expenses, and I find that having a special budget line set aside for stupid expenses that aren't "normal" (gifts, dental work, etc.) helps keep me on track.

On Keeping Track of Our Money
yep, I started using Mint.com a few years ago and recently got back into it--I went into my past spending and set up a budget that I think will realistically encompass everything that I actually spend in a month (encompassing things like "incidentals," ie, things I only spend money on occasionally, and also cash withdrawals). Mint.com (and other websites like it) really makes it SO EASY once you invest a little bit of time in setting up your budgets and savings goals because you can link all of your savings/checking/credit accounts and loans. and wow, it has already made such a difference in how aware I am of my spending. no more thinking about "where did all my money go?"

On Some Small Things Are Worth Paying For
@Deana B@twitter YOU GUYS you can get $4 bouquets at Trader Joe's. It makes me feel so faaaaaaaaaancy and usually I just skip on the carton of ice cream (which is better anyway, right?)

On Ad Campaign Awful, But Effective
There was actually a New York Times article written a few months ago about whether or not Disney World can be fun for adults. Conclusion: maybe, if you drink a lot.

On The Best Single-Use Gadgets: A Biased Guide
Ooh! I was also just about to write about the French press as teapot. However, I can still add: another way that a crock pot saves you money is that you can cook dried beans in it! One bag of dried beans basically costs the same as one or two cans of cooked beans. You can freeze them and then they are READY TO USE.

On Gifts to President Obama
I'd like to imagine that "Handled pursuant to US Secret Service policy" means someone said, I want that. And that "Perishable goods handled pursuant to US Secret Service policy" means all the Secret Service guys were like, WHO WANTS CHOCOLATES??
