Estimations

Friday Estimate

I’m in Rockville, Maryland at the geek+creativity convention Intervention this weekend (betcha didn’t know that the entire day yesterday I was working from airplanes) so my spending will be a little unusual.

Today and Saturday it’ll just be the cost of hotel food*, but Sunday I’ll have to pay for the incidental costs of flying back to Seattle, including checking two bags because I’ve got a merch booth at Intervention and that means I get to haul my merch across the country.

So I’m guessing $80 for three meals each on Fri/Sat/Sun, and then $100 for checking two bags at the airport and then paying a taxi to get those awkward, heavy bags back from the airport to my apartment.

And probably an extra $20 on a souvenir from one of the Intervention merch booth dealers.

$200 total for the weekend. (I’m also expecting to earn $400 selling merch.)

How about you?

Friday Estimate

Good morning and TGIF! Time for some estimates.

I won’t be doing a weekend estimate today because I’ll be off next week. I had originally planned to take the $500 I put in a vacation savings account, rent a house upstate and go off the grid, but have decided to stay in the city, see friends, go to baseball games, sit outside in the middle of the day reading books, try some new restaurants, and try not to think about work for a week. We’ll see! I’ve always been bad about taking vacations. I’ll tally up my spending a week from now. Meaghan, Ester, and Nicole will be in charge.

But what about you? Any big plans this weekend?

Friday Estimate

Good morning and TGIF! Let’s do some estimations.

As I mentioned in the Do 1 Thing post yesterday, I’m attending a birthday party for a friend and his baby, and that’ll be my main expense this weekend. My fridge is still pretty stocked, so I won’t need to do a grocery run. My estimate is $100.

The Average Affair Will Cost You $2600 Apparently?

According to a press release sent to Mike by a concerned tipster and loyal reader — haha, JK, by Edith — “The Average Affair Begins 2 Years into Marriage, Lasts Six Months and Costs Over $2,600.” Are you ready for this?

In addition to potentially costing a person their happy home and marriage, a leading coupon brand has revealed that the average affair costs the cheating party over $2,600, including dollars spent on expensive dinners, hotel check and gifts while sneaking around behind their spouse’s back. The survey, conducted by www.vouchercloud.net, was part of the company’s wider research into the leisure spending of American citizens, after an increase in searches for dating discounts. 2,645 US citizens took part in the study, all of whom were aged 25 and over and had been married to their current partner for a minimum of 5 years.

Aged 25+, married 5+ years … holy god, they’re talking about me! So what do I have to look forward to?

The following list reveals the average spend per item per month:

Hotel Bills – $123 Dinner & Drink Tabs – $162 Gifts – $54 Date activities e.g. cinema tickets – $69 Other – $36

This equates to average expenditure of $444 per month. Considering the average affair lasts for six months, the total cost of an illicit extramarital relationship was revealed to be $2,664. The adulterous respondents were then asked: “Did/Does your spouse ever question your finances or notice any unexplained expenditure, in relation to your affair?” to which only a third (32%) said that ‘yes’, their partner had noticed their extramarital financial commitments.
