Making Money From a Kick in the Head

Jared Frank was in Peru and taking a selfie of himself when a train passed behind him and a person kicked him in the head.

According to the CBC, Frank’s 11-second video has become such a viral sensation that he could possibly make anywhere from $30,000 to $250,000 off of it (“he was told his video could earn in the range of $2 to $16 per 1,000 views and he would get a 70 per cent share”).

Brb, walking around recording videos of myself until something interesting happens (JK, becoming a viral meme is my nightmare).

It’ll depend on how quickly he monetized the video after it started blowing up. YouTube will also probably give him a CPM on the lower end since this video is probably a one-off.

@EvanDeSimone lesson learned: monetize early, monetize often, before the worst of the concussion kicks in.

@ThatJenn Well otherwise all you’ve got is a head injury.

ThatJenn (#916)

@EvanDeSimone Not JUST a head injury. There are probably some medical bills to consider as well.

@EvanDeSimone how DO you monetize a youtube video? is this something everyone knows how to do? (sorry is this too let me google that for you?)

EvanDeSimone (#2,101)

@OllyOlly At one point you needed to be a YouTube Partner and meet a bunch subscriber and view count criteria. Now it’s open to everyone and I’m pretty sure you just need click enable monetization on the upload.
