Time Is a Flat Circle Every 1 Thing We’ve Ever Done or Will Do We’re Gonna Do Over and Over and Over Again

Thursday is a great day to do that 1 thing you don’t want to do but also don’t want to continue thinking about doing.

I gotta call a man at a bank to see about reversing some fees I got when I tried to game the billpay system and pay my credit card bill with overdraft protection that … went to that credit card. It didn’t work, and it charged me fees on like, every bank account I’ve ever had, multiple times. Over and over and over. So imma call a guy about that, see if I can fix that.

My one thing is to put my laundry away, finally, instead of just living out of my clean laundry baskets. I hate putting laundry away. Despise it. Avoid it for as long as possible. But really, I should just put it away tonight.

snackcarts (#3,300)

This is my least favorite household task! It seems so easy, but it’s so tedious.

CaddyFdot (#2,686)

@echolikebells I’ve realized that it’s so much easier (physically and emotionally) to put it away when you have an assigned place and truly enough space for everything. Are your drawers difficult to open and close? Are they already full and you have to jam the clean clothes in? Do you have all sorts of clothes in each drawer so you never know where things are? It seems silly but these are real barriers! I have always liked the folding part, but I really hated the putting-in-drawers part until I got a new dresser with smooth drawers, more space, and also pared down the clothes that needed to go into it.

LookUponMyWorks (#2,616)

@CaddyFdot What you said!

echolikebells (#3,272)

@CaddyFdot My house is very old, so most of my stuff gets hung because my room is teeny tiny. THAT is the barrier, for me, I think. I have to take my clothes elsewhere, wash them, fold them so they don’t get wrinkled, and then come home and undo all that folding (which I also hate) and then hang them and sort them while I hang them. It just is so tedious/draining for some reason!!! I should probably clean my closet out though, that might make things easier. It is a catastrophe.

CaddyFdot (#2,686)

@echolikebells Oof, that’s a more complicated situation. I have no more advice to contribute, but I did search the internet and find you a song about laundry: http://youtu.be/Gvu5Vdk26XA?t=30s

LookUponMyWorks (#2,616)

Financial One Thing: install TurboTax on computer.

Household maintenance/money saving/planning one thing: cook up this recipe which will provide for multiple delicious meals. http://www.budgetbytes.com/2014/01/artichoke-chicken-skillet/

Personal one thing: go for a run

andnowlights (#2,902)

@LookUponMyWorks I’ve been wanting to try that recipe from her! Except without the chicken because the husband can’t eat meat. Maybe with tofu? Unsure of my plan there.

moreadventurous (#4,956)

@andnowlights Make this very similar one: http://www.budgetbytes.com/2013/03/zesty-tomato-artichoke-pasta/ !!! I just made it the other day, subbing in whole wheat pasta, and it was really great. You could probably throw some toasted pine nuts or something in there too to increase the protein content. I was also thinking some sauteed mushrooms could be nice.

LookUponMyWorks (#2,616)

@andnowlights Hm. I think you could add mushrooms and bell peppers and onions to bulk up the recipe. Not sure how tofu would mesh with artichokes, but it does tend to soak up the flavor of whatever it’s cooked with, sooo….I think you guys should try it and report back!

andnowlights (#2,902)

@LookUponMyWorks @moreadventurous Ooooh pasta! I always forget pasta is a thing! I could do pasta! I already did grocery shopping for this week, but maybe next week!

sharongracepjs (#5,107)

@LookUponMyWorks This chicken looks AMAZING. I’m going to make it this weekend. And now I am also obsessed with this blog.

LookUponMyWorks (#2,616)

@sharongracepjs YES, her blog is awesome. That lady has expanded my repertoire from salad-fried eggs-eggplant parmesan to, like, actual meals that I would not be ashamed to invite other humans over to the house to eat.

bgprincipessa (#699)

@LookUponMyWorks by far my favorite food blog. So legit but also realistic about ingredients and time and tools.
@andnowlights You… you forget about pasta? I don’t understand this world you live in. Pasta is a food group unto itself in my diet.

andnowlights (#2,902)

@bgprincipessa I know it’s weird! My husband thinks I am totally nuts. But I only really like pasta with all the terrible, cheesy, cream sauces and when I’m behaving myself food wise, I don’t have any self-control. The last year and a half has been a free for all, though! It’s just never my first choice when I can have like, a steak.

boogers mcgee (#4,474)

My 1 thing is to make a phone call regarding something that I’ve already called about but forgot the information given to me.
Another 1 thing I have to do is buy a frame at the store during my lunch break, but this is not a pressing 1 thing and also it might be smarter for me to just NOT SPEND MONEY FOR ONCE. But… it’s so nice out and this is a good excuse to walk around.

halloliebchen (#5,373)

My one thing was going to the dentist today which was painful and traumatic so tonight I am treating myself to black bean tacos.

@halloliebchen My one thing is also going to a doctor, so I’m letting myself off the hook this week.

I have a library book on hold that’s ready for me, but I can’t get there today (plus I already have two books out, so might as well leave it there instead of letting my rental time dwindle as I read the others…). 1 Thing Friday/Saturday/Sunday is it!

Stina (#686)

@halloliebchen Oh hon. I’m so sorry.

highjump (#39)

My one thing will be to do my expenses so I can get back the $ work owes me.

greenhumble (#3,010)

My one thing is to cancel my gym membership, because it’s starting to get nice out, and I’d like to save $68 a month.

andnowlights (#2,902)

@greenhumble My one thing this weekend is to join the Y because it’s getting to be the spring/summer and I live in the south. I do not do running in higher than 65 degrees! Also, I miss going to exercise classes so much.

sherlock (#3,599)

I just want to express how happy the repeated use Cohle pictures/quotes in the Do 1 Thing posts makes me. That is all.

meatballsub (#5,401)

I need to call my health insurance and make sure I was covered for all of last year so I won’t get penalized on my taxes. So this means I have to stand in front of the elevators on my floor to make that call b/c we have no offices/free rooms to make personal calls.

andnowlights (#2,902)

@meatballsub I was just thinking about where I was going to make the call to change my doctor’s appointment. My office is open and it’s hard to make calls there without bothering people/that are personal.

meatballsub (#5,401)

@andnowlights Yeah I feel like I shouldn’t make these calls at my desk. My coworker, on the other hand, doesn’t feel shy about this at all and spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Verizon yesterday!

@meatballsub I used to work in cubicle land and I felt weird about making calls at my desk, but I figured it actually might be better to make not-confidential ones there. When I disappeared for a long time, my boss/coworkers would wonder where I was and get annoyed, versus just hearing me call the doctor/insurance/whatever and know I was taking care of something personal but not completely skipping out of work.

TL;DR Unless you find it personally annoying and don’t want to inflict it on others, some personal calls at your desk aren’t too bad.

andnowlights (#2,902)

Two things!

1) Get a prescription filled. Which entails walking over to the pharmacy in shoes that are hurting and giving me blisters. Try not to cry/die.

2) Change my doctors appointment from a Tuesday to a Wednesday or Thursday.

Medical stuff! So adult.

RiffRandell (#4,774)

Taxes= DONE. Thanks 1TT. Now I just need to buy stamps/mail them (one federal and two states), which will maybe happen tomorrow? I too need to do laundry- a load of colds+ moving washed clothes into the dryer. It was a hectic morning!

moreadventurous (#4,956)

Last night I cleaned out my closet and dresser which is a miracle and has been desperately needing to happen for a long, long time. It felt SO GOOD to finally do. Especially throwing away the 12038015732 pairs of tights with holes in them. Go meeeee!!

Today’s 1 (3) thing(z) is to go to Buffalo Exchange to see what they’ll buy from me, then go to the less nice resale place to see what they’ll buy from me, and then go to Goodwill.

andnowlights (#2,902)

@moreadventurous Oh cleaning stuff out is the best feeling!

la_di_da (#1,425)

@andnowlights I need to do that but ALL my tights have holes in them. They get them immediately. Do I just have to buy new tights every single year? That’s like a $50 investment. Ugh.

moreadventurous (#4,956)

@la_di_da To clarify, if the holes were in the crotch seam or the toe seam, I put some nail polish on those suckers to save for next year. You’re so right, it’s a serious and annoying investment.

LookUponMyWorks (#2,616)

@moreadventurous @all I bet tights will be on sale next month in a major way, if you can hold out to do a bulk buy when they’re 30-50% off.

Caitlin with a C (#3,578)

Can’t decide if I’m @echolikebells or @moreadventurous. I need to put away my laundry and toss out my worn out knee highs (/maybe this is all of my knee highs, in which case I also need to buy a new thing of knee highs).

la_di_da (#1,425)

All the things are accomplished!
1)call doctor about refilling my prescription
2)pick up long overdue tax form

This weekend! Do taxes and fill out FAFSA. Woot for paperwork.

andnowlights (#2,902)

@la_di_da Ugh, I just called to refill my prescription. At least this time I had the prescription number! That was a first for me (I took a picture of the bottle yesterday).

EmilyAnomaly (#4,238)

My one thing is to figure out my moving strategy:
1. get a friend to drive me to Goodwill to drop off a ton of donations
2. get friends to help me move my stuff to my new place
3. finish packing
4. figure out if I should donate my dresser I hate or just move it or set it on fire in the alley
5. pick up the keys to the new place
6. ugh

ThatJenn (#916)

My work 1 Thing was to send off these minor edits to a webpage that I’ve been putting off for weeks. Trivial and now done. Why was I putting that off?

My home 1 Thing is to grocery shop. Sigh. I dunno why but I really don’t feel like it this week.

DebtOrAlive (#5,233)

I just did my 1 Thing (yeah, late, DEAL) and it felt so so SO SO good. My 1 Thing was to send the admissions committee an update on, well, life, and it is now done. I wish I’d sent it two weeks ago, but regardless sending it made me realize how much I want this.

WANT, guys, WANT.

readyornot (#816)

my 1 thing is to call time warner because the promotional rate we’ve been getting for a year is set to expire. we had cable + hbo and cinemax for $60 more than we were paying for internet, now it’s going to be an additional ten dollars, so I’m going to call to cancel the cinemax part and lower the bill, i hope.
