Work-Life Balance in Space

Gabrielle Blair interviews astronaut Karen Nyberg about living in the International Space Station and what it’s like to have a job where you’re in space and your husband and kid are on Earth. What strikes me most is that this is such an exciting time for her life and career—and one she was working towards well before she had a family. I love that her being away from home for six months isn’t a tragedy or something sad (though she does talk about missing her family, obviously), but how it’s framed as this super cool thing she gets to do. (“We talked a lot about what Mommy was doing and where Mommy was going. My goal was to try and never make it a negative thing that I would be gone, and to involve him as much as possible.”)
