Today in Google Reader alternatives, Gazette.io is a new product by Oak Studios that will compile all your feeds into one pretty ebook, delivered weekly.
They are charging $1.99/month for this service. From their website: “Support products you love. With a Gazette membership you’ll receive a weekly, personalized ebook with the content from your subscriptions. Your support allows us to continue improving Gazette and keep the lights on. We think that’s a pretty fair deal.”
UH, not for the actual creators of that content, it isn’t!

You can set up Instapaper to email all your “read it later” stuff to your Kindle. And you have to visit the actual site, generating ad impressions, in order to do so. This is what I do for those long Awl pieces they like to post at like 4:59 PM when I’m trying to get out of work, and AFAIK it works out great for everybody.
@stuffisthings Yeah, Instapaper’s great. I visit Longform everyday, which was pretty time-consuming, but now I just send the articles to Instapaper to read in the evening. I believe my daytime productivity has gone up quite a lot since starting doing this.
@stuffisthings Do you have a Kindle Fire? Would Instapaper work with a regular, non-app having Kindle or do you have to have an Instapaper app?
@nogreeneggs Nope it works fine on a regular Kindle. It’s a little bit of a hurdle to set up but there is a step-by-step explanation on the Instapaper site. It also helps if you pay either Instapaper or Amazon for some additional features, but in my experience that’s not even necessary.
@stuffisthings Awesome that is very helpful!
Yeah, also, what? I have to wait until the end of the week? No thank you.
Aside from screwing over content creators a week is forever in internet chatter time, isn’t it? I mean, there is some stuff that is a timeless read that I might send to my kindle but talking about a blog post from the past week on Monday is a bit like being, “So have you heard of this Breaking Bad?”
Um yeah, I was gone from the internet for literally 1.25 days (business trip) and I’m so far behind on my blogs! (proof: no one will read this comment)
