I remember reading about a lot of this a few years ago, especially after the California marriage window. It’s a mess (but then, so is divorce in general: how many people know the laws about marriage and property in the state where they were married or where they live now? And how many knew that before they either got legal training or got divorced?).

Which reminds me, I have a pre-nup to write. Sigh.
