I usually say I felt like $200 of an asshole rather than $450 of an asshole, although if people are doing it on purpose (which of course the parking ticket officer can't know that it was a mistake on my part), $450 seems reasonable for THAT. @JitterBug Don’t worry, I definitely felt like a gigantic asshole on top of feeling like a gigantic idiot when it happened. I know this was an honest mistake but there have been cases where I have missed appointments and had to return home because some able-bodied arsehole decided their need justified them parking in a disabled spot. $200 seems like a fair penalty to me though, so no problems with this story. When we explained that we had mailed the check on the day of the first ticket (which, key point, was true), they only made us pay for the first ticket. If it was a genuine mistake, I think it's definitely worth pleading guilty and trying to get a reduced fine. I had a similar situation where I got a ticket for riding transit without a valid pass - long story short, it was a genuine mistake due to the fact that I had moved a week earlier, and the police officer told me to fight the $175 fine.
