@Madeline Shoes I just did something similar so that I can start saving a little extra (I already save) so that I can quit my job and take a couple months off when I move this summer. It helps just to know you have to write it down if you spend, rather than sneaking it in or something (who am I even sneaking it from? It's my money!) but yeah. Blah blah accountability blah blah blah.

I am the kind of person who loves spreadsheets, and I even kind of like budgeting (at least the loose way I do it on Mint.com - only about 80-90% of my expeditures actually end up in a budget there), but I really, really hate sitting down and copying information into spreadsheets, probably because it feels like that's half of what I do in my day job, so nothing but Mint has ever worked for budgeting/money tracking for me.

BUT that is a freakin' awesome spreadsheet.

I just started an excel budget to help me reach my goal of "don't buy new clothes until after your vacation in May SERIOUSLY YOU DON'T NEED ANY MORE CLOTHES".

I'm not sure exactly how keeping a spreadsheet is supposed to accomplish this, but all I know is it's been 2 weeks and I've been to the mall three times and no new clothes!

I totally love this, but I have one suggestion to add to the kitty. If you have an iPhone (I'm unsure if it's Android compatible) there is an app called "Budget" that is super easy and user-friendly. It allows you to upload all of the financial data that you record in the app into an Excel spreadsheet that you can manipulate at will. It's pretty awesome and only $2. Well worth the price! Just my $0.02.
