Be All You Can Be … At Walmart

Walmart has pledged to hire 100,000 veterans over the next five years. But Josh Eidelson, who writes about labor and about Walmart for The Nation, reports, is underwhelmed: “Reached by phone, Tulsa Walmart worker Christopher Bentley Owen was less than impressed. ‘You’re still subject to all the crap that comes from working for Walmart,’ Owen told The Nation. ‘Extremely low wages, poor benefits and everything else. If that’s the best that’s available for veterans, then there is something wrong.’”

100,000! Not 10,000. ;)

I also read that employers who hire veterans also get a tax credit.

Also, it saddens me that the president of Wal-Mart is sad that veterans are coming home to no jobs. That wouldn’t be because Wal-Mart forces other businesses, especially small businesses, to close, would it? No way.

@josefinastrummer Nope, it would be because people prefer to shop at places that deliver high quality goods at competitive prices. It’s called capitalism.

You lost all credibility when you referenced a low-quality far-left loony magazine. Wal-Mart’s policy is at least attempting to help veterans. What are The Nation, Move-On.org, Harper’s, and the rest doing to help veterans find civilian employment?
