@Lily Rowan Totally fair! Just saying it’s not actually a solution to our budget issues. Income redistribution is a separate goal from, say, funding Social Security.

@deepomega Sure, but I think part of what a progressive income tax is for is income redistribution (I am One Of Those!), so although we still need to cut (say) the military in half, I think it’s a moral good to tax more of the top people’s top money.

@Lily Rowan The top tax bracket is at 250,000, yes. There’s been talk of the “Buffet Tax” which’d add a million-plus tax bracket, but of course the fun part nobody talks about is how we could take literally every penny over a million dollars that people make and still wouldn’t have a balanced budget.

The Repubs also want to fix our fiscal problems by cutting the pay of federal workers (more!). What a surprising, fresh idea! Nowhere in their plan is mentioned even 1 penny of cuts to our bloated, inefficient, and largely unnecessary military, of course.

It also kind of bothers me that they’re being called “tax hikes” when mostly it’s just the expiration of the supposedly temporary Bush era tax cuts, right?
