Wednesday Estimate

We’ll be taking Thursday and Friday off this week for the American Thanksgiving holiday (Canadians, I realize that you celebrated your Thanksgiving last month), so I’m posting the estimate today for our four-day weekends.

I plan on doing zero shopping over the weekend (see this, see also: Buy Nothing Day, and John Herrman’s post at Buzzfeed), but there will be no judgement if you are planning on deal-hunting over the weekend (and if you are, you should definitely check out this post by The Wirecutter on gadget deals). I do plan on heading out to the Rockaways again to volunteer (it’s the season of giving, after all). I’m setting my budget at $150.

What are your estimates?

I’m a little crushed you are disappearing for two extra days this week!
My weekend (normal weekend) estimate is $5 in supplies for my shift on Saturday, quick dinner either before/after ($15) my shift and then likely breakfast out and groceries on Sunday ($55). So estimate is $70.

Aww, sad Canadian here!

thenotestaken (#542)

@thenotestaken I don’t have any plans for the weekend yet so it’s hard to make an estimate. I’ll go with my usual $60 for now.

ahhh it’s so early to decide this!

going out for blackout wednesday with friends — trying to limit to the $30 cash i have in my wallet.

driving to family’s for t-day thursday — could be $0

friday/saturday/sunday i hope to be back at my place hanging out with friends for most of it, plus doing some grocery shopping — $100 to be on the safe side?

I genuinely have no idea. I’ve done all my grocery shopping for Thanksgiving, so I won’t be spending any money beyond the Zipcar tomorrow. That will cost $33 in total as I am on a monthly plan with them so I’ve already paid $75 towards the cost of an all day rental.

Friday I’ll be working for a few hours. I’ll probably eat a meal out both Friday and Saturday. Sunday I plan to spend as a jammie clad slug.

So I will estimate $125 for the weekend.

I’m just gonna say $200 and hope I come in under that. Grocery shopping, friends in town, concerts, booze… :()

Just wanted to say that MIKE YOU ARE AWESOME for volunteering so regularly, and after this weekend, let us know if you come away with any hot tips on smaller groups who need donations and are using them efficiently!

@j-i-a One thing I’ve discovered after giving to the Red Cross, volunteering with the Red Cross, and subsequently becoming disenchanted with the Red Cross, is that your money will definitely go to better use at a smaller organization. The one org I’m currently championing is Team Rubicon, who I worked with last weekend. This video about how they got started is a great way to get to know them.

@Mike Dang Yes, so much! Small groups on the ground, at least at first. Once the bureaucracy grinds into action they can do a lot of good in an organized fashion, but until then…

I am doing a craft night tonight so that will be 0$, tomorrow I may pay to take a cab with my boyfriend to my mom’s for thanksgiving – 30$
Friday I head to the mountains with my mom for the weekend! I plan on spending very little maybe 25$ on Christmas gifts at the outlet stores?

joyballz (#2,000)

Friday I am working and then doing dinner at a friend’s. $5 for the train to the burbs and $10 because I’m bringing something.

Saturday we’re hosting a potluck at our apartment and I’ll likely spend $25 on whatever I decide to make. Then we’re going to see Silver Linings Playbook that evening, $12.

I have no set plans for Sunday, but there will at least be coffee and a croissant and possibly full blown brunch, $30.

Estimate: $82

I’m doing a friends Thanksgiving in Brooklyn, but I already bought the fixins for my mac and cheese so I’ll just spend the $5 to get there and back. May also go to a movie ($6) and hopefully just clean my house and veg out and try to make Christmas purchasing lists. I need to go to Target anyway, so I think I might do that Friday afternoon-ish, which is kind of scary because I’ve never done the Black Friday thing. I need the usual sundries, and maybe I’ll get a head start on Christmas purchases. I figure about $150 total?

pterodactylish (#2,321)

hmm, let’s see: prescription refill $15, non-dairy buttery and creamy things to rig the mashed potatoes $15 with, $15 inevitable pre-train lunch. dinner with boyfriend once i return on sunday, $50 payer will depend on who gets to the bill first. so, $45-95. Not too shabby.

Maladydee (#909)

I’m going to spend $50 (or maybe less!) on groceries, $80 on therapy, and somewhere between $5-10 on coffee+muffin since I work over the weekend. So a total of $140 tops.

selenana (#673)

I’m invited to two Thanksgivings, one on Thursday and one on Friday. For the Thursday one the host has insisted we bring no food since she’s cooked a mountain, so I will bring wine (2000 yen). Train fare 1000 yen. Friday, I am making several things to bring, so will spend around 3000 on ingredients. Saturday I’m doing a dog adoption (0) but will probably go out for lunch 1000 yen. No plans yet for Sunday but probably a movie or something. Another 2000. Throw in another random 1000 and let’s say 10,000 yen, or around $120.
