Justwant to point out that the tubes in that Breast pump are the same as the ones in the Medela Pump in Style. There are no pumps that have the milk flowing through tubes - the tubes deliver the suction. The can get moldy because sometimes moisture collects there, but if you are diligent about running the pump for a while after you are finished pumping they dry out easily.

It took us three tries to get the perfect white noise machine. Our baby would wake up when the sleep sheep turned off, and the graco sweet slumber was soooo quiet, it didn't mask any other noises. In the end we went with a marpac. I wish we would have started there and not wasted cash on the first two, but hopefully this comment will help other parents avoid my mistakes!

@sally I agree on the wipe warmer. We were given one and all it did was dry out the wipes into brown crusty chunks. Gave it away less than a month after my daughter was born. (BTW, we had the one shown in the picture)

Fun fact: a provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) kicked in this year requiring that insurance include breastfeeding support. This means that most plans must now provide some kind of coverage to purchase or rent a breast pump.

On my plan, purchase or rental of a breast pump is covered as durable medical equipment, which means that with a prescription from my medical provider I only have to pay 20% of the cost of the pump after our deductible is paid (it will be after the cost of the baby's birth).

@meatcute Same here! 8 weeks along and I'm way too pukey and out of it to give any of this much serious thought yet. But whenever the puking ceases, there is SO MUCH of this stuff to think about.

This is extremely relevant to my interests! I'm nearly 10 weeks along in my first pregnancy, and I keep reassuring myself that there will be plenty of time to research all this crap once I stop feeling like such a zombie. (Fingers crossed?) I'm bookmarking this one for the months ahead.

Awesome-- I'm going to a baby shower for twins next weekend but don't have 2x the money to spend on a gift. Totally getting that sound machine... and maybe one for myself, too? I'm still a horrible sleeper.
