What a Deal

Have you ever wondered, “I wonder how much it would cost to have someone who is not me wash and dry and fold all of my clothes and linens except for the clothes I am wearing on my body right now and also some silk shirts that I’m going to handwash possibly maybe?!”

I wondered that today and also many days before today. Anyway, the answer is $31.50.

Wow! I usually spend around that much doing my laundry myself once a month to do all my clothes and sheets and towels. And then I usually come back two other times in the month to spend like $10 doing just my clothes since I only have a bout a weeks worth (I have a months worth of sheets and towels so I usually change them once a week and then wash them at the end of the month). Do you know how much per pound your laundromat charged you? I want to see if I can save money that way.

I have been doing this for about a year and it is one of the BEST decisions I have ever made. I actually save money AND I don’t have to do laundry! I use the detergent provided by the laundry mat so I save money on that. It’s a luxury that is worth it. Makes me feel kinda rich.

My genius idea is to open a fluff and fold that also offers a hang dry option. Because 3/4 of my wardrobe can’t go in the dryer, and I can’t be the only one, right??

cliuless (#36)

@missvancity ME TOO. it’s the #1 reason i don’t let anyone else touch my laundry.

missvancity (#146)

@cliuless Excellent! I really don’t enjoy doing laundry, and I’d LOVE to drop it off and have someone deal with it, but they’ll destroy all my clothes, so that’s why I need to start Hang Dry and Fold (obviously I will put more thought into the name).

@missvancity YES EXACTLY! I would absolutely patronize your Fluff and Fold With Hang Dry Option laundry service.

@missvancity dudes, everyone: this was my one reason i didn’t do drop off service, but after grad school + full time work pushed me to the brink, i just went and asked them if they would do it–and they do! they air dry my clothes that need to be air dried! they use my allergen free detergent! they even helped me carry an exceptionally large load home (i live a block away, but still)! all for $0.65 a pound. i’m never doing laundry again.

missvancity (#146)

@dotcommie Hmm, maybe I need to call around the city, because the place near my house DEFINITELY does not air dry….

That seems like SO MUCH MONEY for one lot of washing, WHUT?
I don’t mind washing or drying my clothing – the bit I hate is putting it all away in my room. I would pay for that.

@TARDIStime I’m pretty much only home to sleep, so I’ve been doing the wash & fold for a while. Each lot is a little over $30, but that’s usually about 3 weeks worth of clothes or more, and you get the clothes all neatly folded, sorted, and ready to be thrown into the drawers. Even though I’m often down to my last dollar before payday, the amount of time and mental clutter I save makes it worth it. However, I failed to budget for a big laundry load this month and ended up doing just half of the wash myself from 1-4am on a Saturday night. (And no, I haven’t put it away in my room yet.)

I have one of these, a “portable” washing machine that hooks up to my apartment kitchen sink. I gaze fondly at it frequently. Never again will I run out of clean underwear.

Ahh wash & fold. I used to do this until I realized what a terrible job they do on the laundry… throwing in bras with jeans, lights and darks, I am really picky about laundry.

Woof! That’s so cheap (or I just have a lot of clothes). How much is it per lb, Logan? WHERE IS THIS MAGICAL LAUNDROMAT?
