The Price of Pageants (Beyond, You Know, Lasting Damage)

Tracie Egan Morrissey enrolled her baby in a baby beauty pageant and wrote about it. As always, the most interesting part of the tale is the money. She spent over $1,500 on pageant stuff, including $350 on registration (there were cheaper options, but the way the points system works, you couldn’t win if you went with them) and $250 on a used dress.

To what hopeful end? The winners received a $500 savings bond (LAME) and a Kindle (LAME), though if you would like to see pictures of children fanning themselves with cash like proper winners, that is a thing you can do.

I like how the value of the prizes doesn’t even really come close to what you spend on registration and junk. SCAM.
