I Can’t Do Everything, But I Can Do 1 Thing

I actually have that 1 million things to do (the spectre of last year’s taxes ooooooOOOOooooo) but I can’t really focus on anything right now besides trying to find a new place to live. So today I’m doing something I’ve been putting off some days: Asking my parents to lend me $2,000.

When it became clear that I’d have to move by the end of the month, I knew the only way I could do it would be with help from my folks. I talk to them almost everyday, so they knew that my living situation was deteriorating. When I decided I had to move, I asked if they would be able to help. They said: “Yes.” And we left it at that. But now it’s time to name a number and ask for a transfer.

Unlike so many other times they’ve helped me, however, this will be a loan (I suppose the other times have been called loans but I haven’t paid back anything). This one I will start paying back immediately. (They are more skeptical about my abilities to do this than I am, but even if I just pay them $20 back a month, it’d feel good to do that.) So my 1 thing to do: In clear, adult language say: “I need to borrow $2,000. Can you transfer it into my account?”

The phone line at my office mysteriously stopped working days ago, and I finally called Optimum to come fix it. It was not as difficult as I thought to get a human on the line!

i am (unfortunately) on the hunt for a roommate…so i did my one thing earlier and set up a time to bring in the first prospect. let the games begin…

also last night i booked a flight i’m super excited about! not so much a need but i feel like it counts.

I don’t have any one thing to do because I’ve gotten all my appointments out of the way!

I mean, except my doctor’s appointment, but I can put that off for another month or two.

@redheaded&crazy I did one thing today but I feel like I should probably keep it to myself so I’m going to say it secretively: i uit-qay my oxic-tay ob-jay yaaaaaaaaaaaay

bgprincipessa (#699)

@redheaded&crazy !!!!! Congrats! ?

@bgprincipessa I think you mean ongrats-cay, i’m trying to keep things on the DL here

@redheaded&crazy YAAAY

TARDIStime (#1,633)

@WWVMD I +1 this 1 thing.

My one thing today is to email my ex-boyfriend about getting back half of our security deposit. I’ve been putting it off for weeks. I was torn about whether to even do it, but it’s so much money!

bgprincipessa (#699)

@WWVMD Do it, it’s not his to keep. Even if it’s $20.

@WWVMD Thanks for reminding me that I never got a deposit back on my old apartment! Just called and the management company claimed I didn’t leave a forwarding address…which I did. Fingers crossed we get our money back!

WWVMD (#2,368)

@Science Vs. Dinosaurs Nice! It’s like hidden money you forgot about!

@bgprincipessa You’re completely right. I’m just wimpy.

Ugh, my one thing is to keep hounding my old landlady for my deposit too. It’s been ten months and she’s bee trying to pay it in installments. I fear I may never see the last of it (and it doesn’t help that’s we now live in different countries- she could just disappear and there’s really nothing I could do!)

Dancercise (#94)

I had to reschedule a dentist appointment, so I just took care of that. I love these posts.

allreb (#502)

Uuught. I called the orthopedist to schedule a cortisone shot. I guess attending the appointment next Thursday probably won’t count, though.

Logan, how do you know me so well? How do you know that I never do that one thing? HOW DO YOU DO IT.

Today I… spent a solid hour at work looking up the costs of weddings near where I live (because of yesterday’s “Wedding Costs From a Dude’s Perspective) and what it would cost to get married at a museum in town. I’m not anywhere near being engaged to anyone. If my boyfriend ever saw this he’d probably freak out.

Then I called a guy who advertises his car waxing service in my office to set up an appointment. It’s $30 which is a really good deal – ya know – if you have money or need a car wax. I don’t have the money, nor do I really need a car wax.

Then I went to a lunch with co-workers and got a turkey sandwich and an $11 martini. Why? Why???

I came back to the office, did some work and now I’m reading this blog. I think tonight I’ll ask Logan’s parents to deposit $41 into my account, and also see if they’ll help pay for my non-existent wedding.

I have been trying to clear up my online life/twiddle with the signal-to-noise ratio on my social media. Have ditched about 50 twitter feeds and 10 facebook ‘friends’, and at the same time have been overcome with the desire to spring clean my room. My other Big Thing is getting a new PIN, as I managed to forget mine. You’d think this would be a great budgeting tip but I just feel silly and drain my savings account.

ciphressinchief (#1,880)

@Euphemistic Response I recently got addicted to deleting facebook friends. I really mean that – every time I was online, I had a window open with my friends list. I deleted hundreds… not just people I didn’t really know, but also people who annoyed me and facebook oversharers. I highly recommend it.

I did my one thing today and it was great! There has been a credit on my former telephone/internet account for six months, and I finally telephoned them for a refund. I now have a check coming to me in the mail!

shannowhamo (#845)

I needed to get an oil change and I did it! I pronted off a coupon and everything (intended to get my tires rotated but OOPS the tread on my front tires is apparently totally worn out so they wouldn’t do it…so I guess I need new tires?)

aetataureate (#1,310)

@shannowhamo Maybe just two new tires for now though. Maybe that can be your next 1 Thing!

Megano! (#124)

I am looking for an apartment too! It looks like moving out before the Christmas holidays instead of during might not happen though.

navigateher (#555)

My 1 thing was to call my credit card company because my credit card payments have been randomly rejected during the whole summer and fall. Turns out, the chip might not have been working properly, and they’re sending me a new one. Yay!

aetataureate (#1,310)

Reading these always makes my heart kind of swell. Everybody is so great!

WELL, yesterday I finally got together with a couple of ‘Pin pals and decided to get renter’s insurance after 5.5 years of renting without it. And here’s this post now, so I’m gathering intel and going to do this thing.

Also, I got an effing parking ticket this week but paid it right away. UGH

TARDIStime (#1,633)

My 1 thing was telling my mum that Mr TARDIStime are heading out to a home of our own, probably within the next 5-6 weeks.
She seemed to take it OK – I built it up in my head to be this horrible thing but gave me the impression that it was kind of NBD… Not sure what’s she’s going to do now though, because the house we’re all in now will be too expensive for her to pay for on her own once we’re gone…
