Chipotle Has Nothing to Worry About

Yesterday, David Einhorn, AKA the man with the superpower of saying things that make stock prices fall, talked about Chipotle’s challenge of competing with a “resurgent” Taco Bell, which recently launched a new menu that’ll compete with Chipotle’s “gourmet” burritos. Chipotle’s shares took a little dive during Einhorn’s comments. But the team over at Reuters says that Chipotle has nothing to worry about, because the food on Taco Bell’s new “Cantina” menu is, well, not so tasty. We may stick to making our own burrito bowls for now, thank you very much.

Chipotle’s prices are outrageous, (they charge extra for their delicious guac, making it impossible for me to get out of there with burrito bowl under $10), but Taco Bell’s new Cantina bowls are absolutely vile–basically a heap of iceberg lettuce, corn, and some sort of guac-like dressing that’s a woefully inadequate substitute for the real thing messily strewn over frozen dinner caliber rice and chicken mush. I think mine came to almost $7 anyway, so no thanks, I’ll gladly plunk down the extra $3.50 for far superior ingredients and a meal that leaves me stuffed the rest of the day.

I do, however, love Taco Bell tacos and bean burritos when the mood strikes, but it’s crazy that they thought this slop would step up their game. Apples and oranges.
