Your Dreams Are All Dead

• $100,000 isn’t that much anymore, says BankRate. “The overwhelming majority of Americans still look up to a $100,000 income, but the expectations of what comes with that income are rapidly slumping.”

• Making partner at a law firm isn’t always a big payday, and “it is not uncommon to make partner and not see a bump in guaranteed pay at all,” says Above the Law.

Guaranteed pay bump or not, the life of a partner at a law firm still looks totally fabulous to me.

So 100k in 1976 is 381,000 today. Ugh, today’s Billfold is depressing!

“$100,000 isn’t that much anymore.”

Yes. Yes it is.

@MuffyStJohn I thought we weren’t allowed to make class-based critiques in comments.

@MuffyStJohn I know, right? It is SO MUCH.

Since it’s not a lot of money I guess I shouldn’t think twice about asking for a little 100k salary bump yes?

I think what they want to say is just “$100,000 per year will probably not get you fabulously wealthy,” which is true. It is still a lot of money and much higher than average/median incomes.

@ThatJenn Exactly, it’s enough for a comfortable life but it’s not retire at 35 kind of money.

Well, $100,00 is a lot more dollars than I personally have. So I’m pretty sure it’s still a lot of money.

KatNotCat (#766)

It’s not that much, but it is so much.

considering $100,000 would solve all the financial problems i currently have, i’m gonna go ahead and keep dreaming about it.
