@meetapossum, etc – yes, it was BUNAC. it’s too bad they don’t have an england one anymore, but i’ve known several people who’ve done the australia and new zealand one and had a great time.
@yo panduh – i loved that place! the location and price cannot be beat in that neighborhood – good luck digging in and staying put.

!!! I live in that old barracks on Avenue G and am writing this in the garage apartment my friend rents behind the landlady’s house. I’m paying $450/month and my duplex neighbor had to get her sink removed because the fancy-pants gentrified neighbors want the property to reflect the original zoning agreements, which somehow specify that there can only be one operational kitchen for every two units. Basically they want us outta there. Still, a block and a half to the SuperFresh, two blocks to the pool, three to the tennis courts…

@jane lane Perhaps that gives me something to pitch! I’ve done England and my friend has done both England and Australia through BUNAC, so I’m sure we could have a conversation about it.

@TARDIStime BUNAC is a work exchange program. They give you a temporary work visa from 6 months to a year, depending on the country. You can’t actually work in the UK anymore because they changed their visa requirements, but apparently you can intern there. Here’s the site.

@meetapossum I think someone needs to discuss the financial viability of doing something like BUNAC because now I’m set on going to Australia or New Zealand (the places that will take non-students).

I also did BUNAC (which I assume is the program you’re talking about)! Except I lived in Oxford in a house with 7 other people. And I also wish I could have stayed much, much longer.

I went to Southwestern and enjoyed the heck out of this post. I know that EXACT house on College Street, and the structure in front of the Lord Center apartments makes me think that photo is of the section I lived in (the 400s?)
