I did one of those travel rewards programs and now I've got enough for like 2 nights at a mid-range hotel or a free trip home to the midwest...but I can't bring myself to actually using them up. I always wonder if cash back was actually the way to go...

I have a Discover rewards and they actually give you Cashback rewards. Which you can use to shop at Amazon or you can use to pay your bill. If you pay your bill in full every month, it's an easy way to take care of some Christmas presents.

@redheaded&crazy Yeah, I just discovered the payment estimator on the Chase website. It lets you adjust monthly payments and tells you when you'll be done paying and how much interest you paid.

Really really useful/depressing!

I have a USAA visa, and they give me travel discounts. You should be able to get around $75 off a plane ticket! Yeah, it's no USB aquarium, but still an option.

my credit card is a GM drivers rewards card. This worked out for me I guess because I got a couple hundred dollars off my chevrolet. It is now no longer working for me because I'm not planning on buying another car anytime soon? Although I get extra points somehow for buying gas, which is mostly what I use my credit card for.

Also I just noticed that "estimated time to pay" thing on my CC bill which I have never noticed before! If I just pay the min payment it's 10 years and 3 months. What the.

@stuffisthings It felt like picking out my prize from selling wrapping paper for school fundraisers. I got the minimum prize every time, which was a cardboard can of tootsie rolls (I have never liked tootsie rolls).

@stuffisthings (It's too bad the rewards don't include plastic dinosaur rings, a single toy soldier, or a piece of rock-hard bubblegum.)

@stuffisthings Yeah retail prices are always sketchy on those reward sites. Usually better to go with a gift card if you're looking to maximize point value. Gift cards usually have higher values than straight cash back as well.
