If I saw this in a timely manner, my advice would have been: Sleeping on a bus (or playing Kenken while listening to podcasts, or reading if you're lucky and have no motion sickness issues) for an extra hour at night is NBD. You might actually be more comfortable in the evening despite the longer ride--the bus will be a damn greenhouse with the sun beating down in 90 degree weather. I also cosign saving the $11 for creemees (obviously maple creemees).

Which did you choose??

Save the $11! It will buy you many many creemees, which are a Vermont summer staple. Also, Burlington! Let me know if you need any local recs; I love this place.

I think you chose wisely. Traffic on top of summer construction can make already long bus rides miserable, so even if bus A takes longer than 6 hours to get to Burlington and ends up being more like 7 and a half, at least you didn't go with 7 hour and 40 minute bus ride that might end up being more like 9 hours (yikes!).

Amtrak serves St. Albans but takes ages and costs 1 Arm + 1 Leg. Still, very comfy.

@stuffisthings

That's not how I think of things like that. I think of it as "$11 buys me three double shot cappuccinos". Also, that 1.5 hours on Bus B is from 11:30pm-1:00am which is prime sleeping time. I really don't understand the big deal about this hour and half. You can read, nap, write, chat with people.

@mishaps And can you sleep while also hanging on to all your belongings or stuffing them between you and the seat (it really sucks to have stuff stolen from you while you sleep).

I am a morning person (the kind of miscreant to be found on Bus A), so $11 seems like a totally reasonable fee to take the bus and disembark while still kind of awake.

The extra hour and a half would not be the primary issue for me - there are times when I'd totally go for that to save some cash (assuming there are no added costs to arriving at a different time, like needing to take a cab instead of public transit upon arrival at my destination). The 1 AM arrival is a serious dealbreaker though.

Also consider the kinds of miscreants that will be on Bus B.
