I loved this movie so much, entirely on its own, its place in the Wes Anderson oeuvre aside. It’s sweet and sad and uplifting. It made me want to be 12 again and live on an island and groove to new wave-y French pop.

Also “St. Jack’s Church” is the church my aunt is rector of, and she said Wes Anderson was great and friendly and wore a corduroy suit. If your travels take you to Newport, RI, this summer, go check out Trinity Church! It’s full of history and also Wes Anderson Has Been There.

Me gusta Day for Night, even if it’s a bit odd. But a lot of that is my general fondness for watching Truffaut act in things (every time Close Encounters comes on, I yell, “YES! TRUFFAUT!”).

@Amanda Webber@facebook Since this chat I’ve noticed that just about everyone has written about the Truffaut-Anderson connection, because duh. (I’m an authority on Truffaut so I can talk like that.) But I eventually remembered what I was really thinking of — it’s this short New Yorker piece that you can’t actually read online, thanks New Yorker:

It does mention Truffaut and Small Change, but what stuck with me more was Anderson’s description of the movie as (I really like this) a “documentary of the kids acting.”

I love love LOVE Wes Anderson movies. I just do. Especially The Royal Tenenbaums. Sigh! It’s such an amazing combination of funny and sad and clever and sweet. I just can’t get enough. I’m super excited to see this movie!!! I don’t think it opens in my town for a few more weeks though? Anyway, I just wanted to say that. Also, the Truffaut thing, I read about that on Slate… is that where you guys read it too?

We had pretty much the exact same convo upon leaving the theater for this one, even down to the ‘Rushmore as ten’ rating scale. I was nervous about seeing this cause of his whole arms-length, dollhouse issue, but man it was the sweetest! I’m still thinking about it and those two amazing kids. Ugh so good. $14!

I saw this movie on Saturday ($6 for dragging my butt to the first show of the day!), and I loved it so much that I went again last night with different friends. It was pricier because it was at the fancy theatre. The benefits of the fancy theatre are that a) Most screenings are 21+. I cannot tell you how great it was to see Toy Story 3 without any children around. Sorry, kids! And b) Since the screenings are 21+, you can buy fancy drinks at the fancy theatre bar and drink them during the movie! Last night’s total including movie, one “Campfire Cocktail” (PB&J vodka with pear juice = weird but good), a glass of wine and popcorn: $38. Totally worth it, though. I had a lovely time and the movie was just as great the second time around.
