The Baller Priorities of Young Women
Here is a new survey from the Pew Research Center that shows that young women now value being successful in a high-paying career or profession more than men do. I am not a lady, but Lindsay Katai is, and when she read this, she said, “If we ladies are a mess, at least we’ve got some baller priorities deep down.” Yes! And I will say that I am also friends with plenty of ladies who are not messes at all—they have a totally firm grasp on their finances, have great jobs, and are people who I really admire. We’ll have tons more Sara Blakelys and Sheryl Sandbergs in this world in the very near future.
Also, when it comes to family vs. jobs, family is still the most important thing to all of us. We all want to be good parents, have successful marriages and have great jobs. We can have it all, you guys. (Rolling in the deep!) [via]

How … generous of you.
@Jolie Kerr Jolie! I probably wrote that the wrong way. I was just responding to Lindsay’s hot mess comment, and wanted to point out that there are plenty more ladies who know what they’re doing and aren’t hot messes in the first place.
@Mike Dang LIKE ME.
I like that the chart shows ladies valuing everything slightly more than men? Do we just feel feelings more overall?
@Spinach Party Oh, It’s more than just feelings I think. Young ladies are helping to turn the tide. We’ve been discussing for years how women make a smaller percentage than men do, but last year was the first time I read that young women are actually out-earning men, and I think this will become more apparent as we get older, and I can’t wait to see that.
I’m very glad this survey asked the same set of questions to ladies and fellas! Because I guarantee you that similar questions have been asked only to ladies (because the “kids/love vs. career” question is one that only matters to them, obviously), and then when the results came back with similar number they were used to justify “LOOK EVERYBODY WOMEN WOULD RATHER BE WIVES AND MOTHERS THAN HIGH-POWERED EMPLOYEES, FEMINISM IS A SHAM” op-eds.
@jfruh “Women! Thinking they can HAVE IT ALL!”
I am not much of a baller lady, as my priorities are 1. to make any money ever and 2. not to kill the dog
