President Obama Slow Jams About Student Loans with Jimmy Fallon

Yesterday, I got an email from President Obama that said, “Mike — I wanted to send a quick note about the upcoming get-together I’ll be attending at George Clooney’s house.” I get it, Mr. President: You’re cool! But later that night, the President went on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show and slow jammed about why Congress needs to extend the 2007 College Cost Reduction and Access Act, which would keep interest rates on federally subsidized Stafford loans at 3.4 percent, and I thought, okay, yeah, that’s cool. College costs are getting Out. Of. Control. And figuring out how to make college affordable for low and middle-income students who take out these loans every year to pay for their education sounds like the smart thing to do to me.

It’s probably worth pointing out that at the same time interest rates will (hopefully!) be held down for undergrads, all subsidized grad school loans will be eliminated. So don’t go to grad school kids! For those of you in grad school right now (me), have a drink.
